Be a Messenger of Hope!

Recently our good friend and partner, Valerie Browning, visited Australia to talk about her work with the nomadic Afar people of northern Ethiopia.

While she was here, Valerie wrote a letter to our supporters asking for support for a community radio station that has been set up in the Afar region. That letter is the basis of our Message of Hope 2017 Spring Appeal.

Valerie says,

“It is great to be such a messenger of good news to the people of the Afar…The organisation I am part of, the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA), has set up the radio station so that the remote and nomadic Afar people are now able to hear important messages about community development in their own language.”

The radio station promotes development-oriented programs in the fields of education as part of the culture (including girls being able to go to school), the importance of blood transfusions and donating blood, women being able to deliver babies safely, environmental protection, animal health, and minimising outbreaks of disease.

Ordinary news is an announcement that something significant has happened. Even better, the Good News is that God has come into the world in Jesus Christ to bring God’s kingdom on earth as in heaven, as we pray in church every week. Valerie says that, as a Christian, she believes it is the most significant news the world has ever heard.

Over the past five years, Anglican Overseas Aid partnered with APDA on The Road Less Travelled project, which enabled them to improve nutrition and maternal and child health through providing improved access to community-based health services. That Australian Government funded project ended in June 2016.

Now, through the community radio station, we are working with APDA to help them deliver a message of hope to even more people.

Please help us continue our work by supporting our Message of Hope Spring Appeal.

Please also consider a regular donation as this will help us in our planning for future years. We will help you to stay
informed about what progress is being achieved through the work of APDA. Please also keep praying for the work of
APDA in what are very difficult conditions.

Thank you in anticipation of your support. It really is very much appreciated.
